Past Issues

I’ve now moved into my new studio at 424 Broadway in Soho, and I love it! I’m still shooting clients here in Stuyvesant Town for the next week, but I already love the feeling of having a separate workspace to go to each day. Thanks to everyone who emailed me about apartment leads; I’ll be moving into my new place in Park Slope on November 1st.

I’ve received a lot of great business from word of mouth in the past month thanks to old clients. Often, when I inquire as to how the past client is doing, the new client informs me that the friend has found the love of his or her life! If you are one of my clients who is now happily ensconced in a relationship (or just dating a lot and having a great time), I would love to hear about it. Don’t forget about me!

Best,
Mindy

Before and After of the Month:

Before After

What’s wrong with this “before”?

The ‘before’ shot looks like it was taken for an I.D.—a driver’s license, office identification, or a passport. She’s facing the camera head on, the lighting is unflattering (she looks washed out), and her neutral expression conveys neither mystery nor friendliness. In the ‘after’ photo you can definitely get more a sense of her personality, and you can see her beautiful blue eyes much more clearly. Even if the only photo you have of yourself is an I.D. picture, don’t use it!

Off You Go:

Love to dance? Love to travel? Combine the two by joining Costa Rican Adventures (http://costaricanadventures.com/), a cool organization that runs group trips throughout the year, for some salsa dance instruction. Some of my clients have been on their singles trips in the past, and have highly recommended them. You can learn all about their upcoming trips around the US and Latin America while learning how to salsa, and enjoying beer, wine and snacks after the lesson.

Mark:

The first usual question: Tell us a little about yourself and what you're looking for in a partner:
I am a successful single man, 43, never married seeking a woman to share my life and experiences. I am looking to meet a woman that is accomplished, independent and secure; a woman who enjoys city life and can appreciate the best of New York and beyond. My ideal is 30 to 40, non-smoker who is educated and fit. She has perhaps like myself, dedicated most of her time professional pursuits. She should live in or close to NYC and share my passion for this town and what it has to offer.

I enjoy traveling to exotic destinations and recently completed a photo safari in East Africa. Fine dining and vintage wines combined with good conversation is one way I like to spend an evening.

How did you decide to get started online dating?
I really have decided to give online dating a try due to the fact that i am self- employed and this seems like a good medium to meet quality woman with similar interests/desires. I am using Match.com and I like the fact that there is
a lot of information on each person in just her profile alone. Someone could contact me through Match.com under the user name of mbtauk.

What are some of your favorite places/things to do in New York? Your biggest New York pet peeve?

I really enjoy all the restaurants, film, art, music and ethnic diversity and I try at every chance to indulge myself in everything tthat the greatest city on earth has to offer.
My biggest pet peeve about New York City is the size of the apartments (I live in New Jersey). How does everyone live in these tiny spaces-do you have shoes in your stove?

What They’re Saying:

Dear Mindy,

Just wanted to drop you a line to tell you how much I appreciate the wonderful job you did on my photos. So many great pictures to choose from! And I couldn't have asked for better results. I posted my photo on Match.com and immediately received several emails from some great guys. And with one in particular, we knew from our first date that we were right for each other. It's only been 2 months but it feels like 2 years -- in a good way! And although I'm now out of the online dating scene, it's a nice luxury to have a professional photo of oneself on hand. So thank you again--I've truly met my soul mate and it was thanks to you.

Best regards,
Susan

If you find yourself trying to meet someone while you’re running around the reservoir, lifting weights at the gym, or biking down the west side highway, then why not cut to the chase online too? You can search out matches by activities ranging from the jogging to fencing to kayaking and more.

Coach Notes:

This month, we welcome CyberRomance Coach Kathryn B. Lord. To learn more about how Kathryn can help you find love, check out her website at www.Find-A-Sweetheart.com, or call her at 601-619-0030. You can also learn more about her new book , "Find A Sweetheart Soon! Your Love Trip Planner for Women” on her website.

"One of the most frequently asked questions that I get is ‘How am I going to tell him/her about...?’ Most of us have some kind of physical feature or happening in our pasts that we are not proud of, but that we know is important to tell a new partner at some point.

The fear seems to be that once your partner hears your truth, that he/she will not want you any more. So the tendency is to put off, evade, or lie about significant facts or events. Lying (by commission or omission) in your profile – about anything, but particularly what can easily be seen in a face-to- face meeting, can make for a pretty miserable first date. The most frequent lies that show up easily? Age, height, and weight.

Why not tell the truth? Even though most people suspect that others are lying about things like age (‘Add five years if the individual is over 50’ is the conventional wisdom), if you tell the truth, then your date will be pleasantly surprised -- *Oh, you really are 5 feet five inches tall!* And your character will get a few upwards notches for the honesty factor.

Have you considered that telling might actually bring you closer to a new mate? Having and holding a secret creates distance, while revealing flaws opens the way for closeness and trust. Being open about yourself also encourages your partner to tell his or her truths, which are important for you to know as soon as possible in a new relationship.

Consider too that you are going to want a partner who can love and accept the whole of you -- if there is something in your past which might cause a person to say *no* to you, then it is in YOUR best interest to know that up front, before you waste too much time.”
