The
Contact Sheet
March 2004
Past Issues
This
March seems to be coming in like a lamb and going out like a lion,
but after this ridiculous winter, at least spring finally seems
to be in the air. With beautiful light streaming into the studio
during the day, we've been getting great shots of lots of people
of all ages (from mid-twenties to seventies with the average client
in his or her forties) and yes, both men and women. In this issue
of The Contact Sheet, we have news about our impending fame in Japan,
a tip from a dating coach, a date story from the winner of our contest
last month that involves a surprise costume change, and more. Hope
your dating lives are fruitful and multiplying!
Best,
Mindy

News
and Tips:
On
the Air:
In March, SingleShots will be having our very own 'Lost in Translation'
moment in the spotlight, when we will be appearing in a segment
called New York Style on Fuji TV in Japan. Channel surfers stateside
can catch it on cable on channel 63 (WMBC) when it airs on Saturday,
April 3 at 10 PM.
Y Not:
Spiff up your profile! SingleShots is teaming up with wordsmith
Evan Marc Katz of E-cyrano.com
for a program at the 92nd St. Y the evening of June 17th. Evan will
help you weave your words, while we will be snapping free portraits
that you can purchase later if you like how they look. You can register
starting in April.
In
general, we want to hear about your success stories-more attention
online or meeting someone as a result of a better photo. If we use
your success story in The Contact Sheet, we'll send you a free 5x7
print that you can give your new significant other.
Double
Shots

Kim
Wilson met her boyfriend Jeff shortly after posting her SingleShots
photos on Match.com. She writes: "Not only are my pictures
flattering but they also capture my personality. My family and friends
(and now my boyfriend) all commented on how authentic and "real"
my expressions appeared. That made the experience of sending a photo
to potential dates much more comfortable."
Send us
your success stories! We always want to hear about how our photo
helped your love life, whether that means tons of responses, dating
a great person, or getting engaged. If we use it in The Contact
Sheet, you'll get a free 5x7 print.

The Good, the Bad, and the…
Thanks
to everyone who sent in their horrific, hilarious bad date stories.
Betsy and I had a hard time choosing, but the following story, sent
in by a 32 year old Manhattanite who wished to remain anonymous,
goes to show that you never know what you're quite getting yourself
into when you go out on a blind date.
"I
was once set up on a blind date by my father's girlfriend's friend.
She said he was a 'great guy', loved children and even owned a kid's
gym. Howie later described himself as half genius, half retarded.
A diagnosis, not a joke. He showed up for our date in his workout
clothes, after his workout. The sound of my roommate's laughter
followed us until he buckled me safely into his van and slammed
the door.
What
was supposed to be a picnic on the beach turned into a drive over
the hill for a 'quick' stop at work. Apparently, there was some
sort of emergency. The magician had cancelled at the last minute
for Jenny's 6th birthday party. Howie - make that, Howie and I were
to be the replacement act. As he shut the door to his office and
proceeded to change into the clown suit he would wear as the magician,
he informed me that as his assistant I could stay in the clothes
I was wearing. Thank you?"
Off
You Go:
We
know that online dating can be fun, bring you great adventures and
help you meet amazing people, but we also know it can be exhausting.
Sometimes, it's good to supplement your online flirting with some
real life face to face options. Each month we'll highlight a few
offline activities, and as always we welcome your suggestions.
Eight
at Eight
If you're tired of the pressure of one-on-one dates for now, see
if sparks fly over dinner with a group of people matched by age,
interests, and background. Four men and four women meet for conversation,
dinner, and the chance to increase their circle of friends - all
planned by Eight at Eight (8at8.com, 212-785-5888).
Sexy
American Girlfriend- Live 80's Karaoke
When
I'm not spending time helping people get dates online, I'm helping
them make their rock star dreams come true as a singer in the live
80's karaoke band Sexy American Girlfriend. Join
us on stage on March 20th at 8:00pm
at Hogs and Heifers Uptown (1843 1st Ave. between
95th and 96th) and belt out your favorite 80's tunes while your
fans scream accolades and rip off your clothes a la Frankie Goes
to Hollywood. Karaoke never sounded so good. 80's inspired dress
always encouraged, $10 cover. If you can't make it to this gig,
but would like to be on our mailing list, let me know.
Promotions:
You
Give Me Spring Fever
We know you've gotten great results from the photos we took of you
last summer or fall, but perhaps it's time to change it up again.
Returning clients who make appointments in March receive a free
upgrade from a Basic to a Premium Package or a Premium to an Unlimited
package, a 25% savings. Call us at 212-777-1482 to find out more
about our new packages.
If you're a new client, we are also continuing to offer our Bring
a Friend promotion: if you book a session with a friend,
both people will receive a free upgrade. Under our Refer
a Friend promotion, past clients who continue to help pass
the word on about SingleShots receive a free 5x7 print or web photo
if their friend books a session with us.
Site
Unseen:
Jmatch.com
If you're Jewish and looking to explore dating pastures beyond Jdate,
check out Jmatch.com. Even as a non-member, you
can post a profile and respond to messages, a capability that has
been eliminated in many pay-to-date sites. Not surprisingly, they
have tons of members in New York, and a really personalized approach.
There's actually a human being to answer the phone if you need help,
and they have their very own matchmaker on staff.
Coach
Notes:
Each
month, we'll highlight a different dating coach who will bring you
pearls of online wisdom. This month, we welcome CyberRomance
Coach Kathryn B. Lord. To learn more about how Kathryn
can help you find love, check out her website at www.Find-A-Sweetheart.com,
or call her at 601-619-0030.
"After
you have your polished profile and great photo posted, don't just
sit and wait for the emails to pour in from others. Whether you
are male or female, why should you limit yourself to those who happen
to stumble on your write-up and then are interested enough to email
you? Look carefully at other folks' listings and pick a few at a
time to contact. Then craft a thoughtful note, personalized to your
receiver. No shotgun approaches here! More is not better.
I
made the first contact with the man I married. That first email
was only two paragraphs long, but highly personalized -- Drew was
intrigued and answered. The next Valentine's Day, Drew gave me a
framed copy of that first email I sent him. Now, it hangs in our
bedroom."
