Since
we’re in the business of helping people find love, we can
never resist sending out a newsletter for Valentine’s Day
to keep encouraging people to get out there and meet people, whether
online or off. Yes, Valentine’s Day is overly commercialized,
and can be potentially awkward if you’re only up to date number
two, but for whatever reason there’s something in the air
this time of year, so take advantage of it! Be bold, and introduce
yourself to someone you’ve noticed at your bus stop, or at
the bookstore.
What do you have to lose?
Best,
Mindy
Before
and After of the Month:

| Before |
After |
What’s
wrong with this “before”?
It was smart
to take a photo in flattering open shade, in front of a nice green
background, but the photographer didn’t compensate and underexposed
the shot. It’s way too dark and you can’t really see
his face clearly. Even if you can make out his face, he looks a
little scared. In the ‘after’ shot his confidence really
comes through, especially in his eyes.

What
They're Saying:

“You
won't believe the response I've received! I've had people contact
me on Jdate who never wrote before, those that wrote before can't
believe how good I look, etc.! Have received about 75 emails from
Jdate! And on Observer men are writing and telling me how beautiful
I am. I owe it all to you!”

New
Year, New Hue
By Susan Sommers
Looking
for a color that makes every woman look sensational (and every man
look stylish) in photos—and in person?
It’s
pink. But not the bright, hot pink of last spring and summer,
rather a softer, sweeter and subtler version. One of the ways I’m
currently wearing this versatile shade is on my cheeks—a
rosy blush, high on the apples of my cheek. This placement,
according to the experts, is the flush of the moment,
although if you like a less girlish look, wear blush slightly lower
on the cheeks. Although pink eyeshadow is also
highly touted, it makes me look like I have pink eye, so I prefer
a soft toast tint. According to makeup maven Bobbi Brown, choose
pink lipsticks and glosses according to your hair color: blondes
look best in opaque pastel pinks and brunettes
in sheer pink or lip colors with a slight brown cast. I’m
a redhead and find that a beigey pink lipstick
looks pretty with my complexion.
A
blush sweater or blouse is an obvious choice for softness around
the face, but I much prefer multistrands of pale pink pearls.
They look newer and fresher and create an appealing focal point.
And it doesn’t matter if they’re real or just really
great imposters.
Pink
is also a wonderful shade for men. A crisp pink
shirt, whether solid or patterned or a pink paisley
or geometric tie works with brown, gray, navy and black.
For those guys who live in jeans, try wearing them with a T-shirt,
sports jacket and pink patterned square in your
pocket. The total effect is effortless and original. Pink
socks with a staid suit is another option. Because they’re
concealed under your trousers, they can be your personal
style secret.
